Besides the standing lecture on Fridays at 180 New Montgomery, I thought it might be helpful to have a 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week forum where we could reach one another with ideas, solutions or random thought.
The forum will be broken down into several main areas of discussion for ease of access. The rest is up to you!
Thanks for participating!

Hello, Mr. De Quattro. Aaron Chiesa/VFX Major. I enjoyed lecture today very much. I've learned a lot already. Anyway, just a couple of questions: 1- Do you reccomend buying a camera, or will it be easily accessible most times? 2- I have a project that was started early this summer, but was abandoned in early stages. Could this completed project be worth bonus? 3- I plan on getting an external disk. How much sapce do you think I will need and do you have any suggestions for a brand? Thanks for your time

i'd use the lab camera until you become proficient. we'll discuss this in the coming weeks.

show me. 3- I plan on getting an external disk. How much sapce do you think I will need and do you have any suggestions for a brand?
i use a maxtor 200GB firewire drive. good price point and performance.

I really enjoyed the first lecture.... it answered many of the questions that have been lingering in my mind. It was also great to meet all my fellow VFX students.
Just wanted to say hi to everyone... and begin my journey into collecting the "Most Threads Posted" bonus points!
I look forward to getting to know you all better..

I also really enjoyed the first lecture... I was very nervous about my first day in the graduate program as i had alot of questions in my mind. Most of them were answered and i really enjoyed meeting new people who have similiar goals. Looking forward to hearing everyones ideas and seeing the skill level of the class...

The first lecture was a blast and I was amazed! Can't wait for the rest of the lectures and get my hands "deep" into production and the green screen room.

Can you post your vita to this site, I'm trying to deside what film to write my paper on, but I can't remember all the films you've worked on, I know I have a few in my dvd collection, like Episode's 1 and 2, but I was hoping I'd remember your other films, because I figure Starwars will be done to death. 2004 The Day After Tomorrow Hellboy 2003 The Last Samurai THX1138 (re-release) 2002 Terminator 3 Pirates of the Caribbean 2001 Star Wars: Episode II Pearl Harbor 2000 ET the Extra-Terrestrial (re-release) The Perfect Storm 1999 Mission to Mars Star Wars: Episode I 1998 Mighty Joe Young 1997 The Emissary 1996 Batman and Robin Mars Attacks! Eraser 1995 Marvin the Martian (3D) Rainbow Mortal Kombat 1994 Immortal Beloved 1993 Cyber-Bandits

Brandy- I completly agree...as someone who has never had any lighting experience I thought it was an awesome crash course...it will make this first project so much better!
Also - if anyone who was volunteering yesterday didn't get a chance to write down what was being said (or for the ESL students, it all went pretty fast)- I took some pretty good notes and would be happy to post them on here - let me know!

I agree. I have been on L.A. soundstages for commercial shoots as an assistant to the creative director, but I must admit I never really understood the lingo or lighting as I was dealing with other matters. I feel the crash course really helped a lot, and I feel comfortable with working in the green screen room now.

It was a really good lecture, he did a really good job getting beyond the basics and introducing us to some advanced ideas without being overwhelming, I think the class really took off after our first break, I wish we could have gotten into gels, filters, scrims and such, but all in all in 1.5 hours, we got almost a semester of lighting instruction.
