Haha, after almost a semester of class, this line sounds ever funnier and funnier: [on compositing] "that's it. seems pretty simple, huh?" -Vince De Quattro

And speaking of compositing & visual effects fields...what is everyone leaning towards now that we've had a semester of teaching? I think I'm still looking towards compositing [roto to start off most likely]...we seem to have a pretty good variety in our class, which is pretty neat-o if you ask me.

ahh yess! The "Goals of our Lives"... that should be a Soap Opera title!!
So I plan to become an Effects Animator.. who knows where. Then an Effects TD, then some sort of supervisor... then oh yeah.. a CG Effects Supervisor! After that who knows.. maybe I'll buy all the rest of that lunar real estate and retire next to Tom Cruise on the moon. This is assuming all of my grad. school debt gets paid off!

lol, pixade, chewing broken glass is more enjoyable than writing essays. But yes, specialization does seem to be getting to be more common, from the little I can gather. A guy told me that in fields that used to have compositors, like video games [ie the old school Jedi Knight, 7th Guest, etc -- woo hoo] that used to have live-acting on pre-rendered backgrounds...those days are [obviously] gone, and so oppourtunities in the video game industry are all but gone for the time being. So in that instance, wearing multiple hats would definitely be preferred.

Yeah, doing a roto work seems like a safe place to start. You know, just to put your foot in the door.. but it's not for me though since I'm an animation major. Besides that, I hate it(roto) hate it hate it! In fact I can't help but to respect the people who do rotoscoping for a living. It's such a tedious job, and yet requiring A LOT of patience.. I personally don't know how I'm gonna get a job as an animator. Looks like that area is fiercely competitive..

oddly enough, I don't really seem to mind roto work! Now, after 10 months STRAIGHT of doing it on a job, I might start to wanna do something else...but for 'the now', it's all fine and dandy for me.
