This week's project assignment involves the following skills development tracks:
creative direction
each student is expected to contribute to the project storyboard. this week's situation involves finding a sequence from a classic black and white film (from a dvd, vhs tape, or beta) and then match lighting a green screen shoot for that background. please keep your seqence length to under thirty seconds. in the latter case, please lock off your camera. a locked off camera is a camera that is fixed in a single position and orientation on a tripod (no panning) without changing focal length, e.g. without a zoom.
project planning
students are encouraged to contribute to all phases of the project plan, from storyboard to final stage shoot.
facility resource coordination
students must coordinate the shoot, frame downloads, talent, and any other aspect of the project during the week leading up to the next class session with the video lab personnel.
hands on equipment experience
students are expected to handle set lights, props, stands, cameras and any and all other technical details involved in the stage shoot.
if you are shooting a live plate on location, please make all measurements in reference to light positions, camera position, camera angle to ground and camera height so that you may more easily recreate your camera and lighting enviroment on the stage.
group dynamics
students have been encouraged to form into groups in order to conduct this project. each group must decide which personnel will conduct which task or tasks necessary to make progress in completing the project.
plan execution
student groups will be evaluated as a whole based on the final presentation of the project homework.
project presentation
each member of each group will discuss their contribution to the project and respond to visual effects direction during dailies.
if you have any questions about the assignment, need equipment, or are having difficulty setting up stage time through your lead, please call me in my academy office:
