Garrett presented the shot blocking to me last Friday, and while I think the character, set and prop modeling worked well, I felt that the shot's composition didn't showcase your collective talent sufficiently.
Throughout the semester I've underscored the importance of feedback, and though I believe it's difficult to invite scrutiny in your early careers, it's the only thing that will insure that your work improves to the point where your future employers consider it professional. I was amazed that last Friday was the first time I was getting a chance to see the frame blocking.
I immediately noticed that the shot you had composed and the original Toy Story 2 shot were different. It was a shame that you guys didn't have time model clearly the most outstanding feature of the reference frame you picked: Buzz Lightyear.
Buzz's position in the ventilation shaft provided an opportunity to render reflections and use indirect bounce lighting. Had I seen your composition earlier, I would have strongly advised that you pursue the modelling of Buzz and the keeping to the original frame layout.
All is not lost. I'm interested to see if moving one of the other models into Buzz's position will help the shot.
Lesson learned: Get blocking completed as soon as possible and then get feedback. No use putting four weeks of work into an approach that might end up on the cutting room floor.
See you Friday.

Vince- Mentioned it in the email I sent you. I moved the pig up, but I think I will put Mr. Potato Head in place of the pig. The reflections are working, but I don't think it will be exactly the same as Pixar's. Ha! I also think I might render out several dfferent angles of the scene, just to do so.
Peter and I will be putting together the reel this afternoon. In our defense though, I think we have done a good job for our first attempt at collaboration. Turning a non-modeler in to a more confident modeler, etc. We worked hard, but you are right, I take full responsibility for not sharing the shot blocking with you earlier.
