Week 15 General Notes
Check message board on Wednesday to find out if we can go to ILM on Friday.
Any last minute changes to your work should be posted in the FINALS folder by the last day of school. Vince will begin grading around Tues or Wed next week.
When submitting your Final pieces in the FINALS folder, make sure the slate includes the word "FINAL" under take number, and that all the group members names are listed.
Only submit your Quicktime .mov file (unless specifically requested by Vince, in the notes below, to include your AE or Maya files.)
Week 15 Dailies
Greenscreen:
GS01d -
Take out mid-tone in Green Channel.
Add more red/magenta to face.
A little too soft, only take out grain in blue channel.
Use "median" filter, put back in comp and "set channels".
GS03 -
Create a solid to hold the matte.
Turn to 50% so you can see the image.
Make roto mask on solid layer and make VARIOUS SHAPES (for fingers and glass) that overlap each other.
Move shapes independently of each other and begin keyframing.
DO NOT add points while keyframing.
Pick large sections on the timeline first, then keyframe again around the mid-point, then in half again... etc...
For glass, maybe add an opacity to the mask, of feather, or fall-off.
Contrast a bit too high, blacks to low, should not go to 0,0,0. Match to Steve Carrels Jacket.
Fix overall color correction.
Match Lighting:
Jason -
Fix aspect ratio.
Color correction, shadow side.
Use adjustment layer to check black levels. (Turn "Brightness and Contrast" to 100 Bright.)
Now check shadows to Color Correct. Should be more red/magenta. (Take out some green.)
Beef-up reflection image to show more light coming in.
Increase resolution in shadow.
Mental Ray reflection pass.
UFO:
Roy -
Fix displacement map.
Check focus, too sharp.
Make sure it's self-shadowing. (Maybe too reflective.)
Zip's in too fast.
White's are a little TOO white.
Maybe try 2D fluids for future use. (Faster to render.)
Add solid layer to AE. Generate ramp. Screen color layer over footage to blow-out the camera lens on explosion.
Final
Tyler -
Shadow plane looks off - fix match move.
Match shadow position to bridge shadow.
Shadow should be more solid/dense (like the bridge shadow.)
Reflection should be more red.
Plate is so sharp, UFO should be sharper.
Aaron -
Color correct, too magenta. Move more toward cyan.
Maybe match cream on buildings more (take out blue.)
Do not stretch time past 2x or you will get duplicate frames.
Make glass more reflective (add sky blue.)
Phong E, M-sphere.
Add green to bottom of UFO to make it look like it's reflecting the grass.
Emi -
Color correct for Blue haze in sky. (Match blacks.) "Atmospheric Distortion"
Take out saturation and add back some blue. Pick up more sky color.
Jason -
Add atmospheric depth effect (use Lum / Depth pass from Maya.)
Final
Yuka -
Leave Maya & AE files for Vince. He will help you over the summer.
Needs more blue.
Too much edge wrap.
Cheryl -
Add some interlace.
Color correct black.
Add some atmospheric distortion.
David -
OK to add a little bounce light up.
Leave Maya scene file for Vince and he will review.
Add atmospheric.
Extras:
Devank - Night Crawler
Match Blacks.
OK to color correct original plate - looks a little flashed.
Check overall color correction.
Tyler - Night Roller
Should be 720 x 480
Work on contact shadows.
Jeff - Film Noir
A bit too soft (is that because of rack focus?)
Scale yourself down about 10% and check perspective.
Move a bit left.
Fix extraction.
