** Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University?
I was doing IT Project Management for the Australian equivalent of 511.org (www.transinfo.com.au) and although I enjoyed PM - I didn't like my job or the industry I was in. I completed my Graduate Certificate in IT Project Management and decided I needed a fresh start. I heard about the program from a friend who works in production at Pixar and the more I looked at the school the more it sounded like what I wanted.
** Do you feel that the school has the necessary resources you need to complete your program?
I feel that there isn't enough computers in the lab and, as we all know, each classroom seems to have it's own set of problems (projectors, monitors etc). That said, I must say that the teachers I have had here are great and each one has given me valuable techniques and shown me real life work that has helped me become a better student, vfx artist.
** What makes you want to participate in the computer graphics industry?
I think this is an industry that i want to spend my life in. I want to be able to do this in any country at any time of day. I love the idea of making things so real that people no longer question it (like the way Zodiac created a 1970's san francisco so easily and no one really thought of it as a cg film). I want to be proud of what i do, excited by the out come and be in an industry i want to learn about.
** Do you watch a lot of VFX films?
I do now, but I am more interested in commercials. I trawl the internet for new commercials (especially ones like the orphanage is producing, or channel 4 creative and the moving picture company).
** What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the computer graphics industry?
My skills in project management make me able to fit into a pipeline at any level of the chain. I was th Quality Systems Manager and understand the need for protocols and naming conventions etc and how it effects everything.
I have also lived and/or worked in many other countries, japan, australia, USA, england and have no troubles interacting with people of all walks of life.
** Would you classify yourself as an artist, a technician, or a little of both?
Technician - I don't believe i am all that creative but i can work on other peoples creative visons and finish them.
