HP ad:
We all need to get our separate elements done by December 4th. This will allow for any necessary internal changes and final comp to be done by the 7th. Please read over what you should be working on below and send a test of it to me by Monday next week. I will string it all together and send it to Vince. If you have it sooner, great.
We have the new cut on the network in the HP folder. It is titled “Live Wirelessly Edit 004”. Please get it off the server and work from this updated cut.
HP shot 03:
When the birds take off form the screen they need to be at the speed of the camera. Right now they seem a little slow. They should be further ahead in this shot. As she kisses him you see the birds start to fly off screen. Then they follow her toward the wall and are at around shoulder height and scaled up. Use shot 05 as a hero for the scale and density of the birds as they fly off screen. Also please make the trials behind the birds more readable and add some magic to the trails. Some particles trailing behind them or try using the star glow effect we discussed. It is another Trapcode plug-in. Scale them up as they fly from the monitor, just like they scale down to fly into the printer.
Sateesh: Please modify this and send to Vince, cc me, when you have finished. I know Vince wanted to see you section over the weekend if possible.
This is the only shot where monitor replacement will be needed. Currently waiting on new mattes to be supplied for this from the roto department.
Heather: Please roto the monitor and the guys shoulder for monitor replacement. If you are able to drop this off at school Sunday night let me know so I can pick it up, otherwise please send it to me or post it somewhere I can download it from.
HP shot 04:
Here the birds will be scaled up as the girl is and then scaled back with her as the camera pulls back. Right now the birds stay the same size through out this shot. Give them more of the sin curve to follow as they fly. Try and think about the motion of this sin curve through out the entire piece so that they follow it through out. The client still feels like there is a lack of continuity here. So giving them the correct depth of field, matching their speed to the speed of the camera and having them follow a sin curve throughout the piece will help this. Also try to keep her face clear while she walks and try to frame it more with the birds rather then blocking it. Use less birds, scale them up and try and work with the colors. Right now the colors come in waves. Break this up so the colors are more random and have more cyan, less yellow and even less magenta. Also, again with the trail, try to add some magic as discussed and make the trail itself more readable.
Sateesh: Please modify this and send to Vince, cc me, when you have finished. I know Vince wanted to see you section over the weekend if possible.
HP shot 05:
The motion and scale of the birds is great here. The transition from live action to G printer needs to be worked on here. The model is close to being done, so lets go ahead and take what we have and start comping it into the shot. This needs to be as seamless. Once the printer rests, fade the background to white. As the background is fading to white, make the transition from real to CG printer. Line up the CG printer with the real one and make it as close as possible. Once the background fades to white then rotate the printer to face forward. Use the rough animatic as a guide, but bring the printer down in size 5-6 fields. I will be providing the HD chart shortly.
Akin, Sateesh and Heather: Ok, so this is how I think we should go about this. Akin, as soon as you are done with the model and replacing the artwork on the paper, pass it off to Sateesh to animate and texture. Sateesh, you take the model and animate the rotation and the paper coming out before texturing so that Heather can start working on the transition while you texture the printer. Once it is textured Heather will swap out the old printer for the new textured printer. This needs to be done ASAP because I know Vince wants the B-version of this to take a look at it sooner then later. So Heather, as soon as you receive elements from Sateesh, please work on that and send me your first pass ASAP. Sorry to rush everyone but we have less then 2 weeks to get this transition locked and finished. If there are any questions or concerns let me know.
Sateesh: Will you please also send me the printer once you have the rotation animated with the paper coming out so I can work on one of the logo reveals.
HP logo reveal:
We are working on 2 versions for this right now.
Version A: The birds fly off the paper and fill the screen to white then fly off screen to reveal the logo.
Version B: The birds fly form behind the printer and fill the screen to white then fly off screen to reveal logo.
In both versions once the screen is filled to white, the printer is no longer there and is replaced by the logo. So birds fly out and cover printer)fill screen to white) then they continue to fly off screen wiping the logo on.
ALEX: Please work on version B of the logo reveal. Send a test to me by Monday so we can get feedback from Vince. If you have any questions email or call me. I will email you the new logo shortly.
As far as the pixel aspect and file formats we have been receiving from the client, we have to work with what we are provided. Simply convert the aspect ratio in AE. We should be working in square pixels and delivering to the editor for finish in .9 pixel aspect ratio. The editors cannot work with square pixel.
Matchlighting:
Heather: take the highlights out of your cup. There is one light source coming form frame left. Compare it to your original, use the original as reference and try to match the lighting there. It also looks a little dark under the handle.
Alex: Make sure you check your comps before you bring them in to class. Please bring a correct version of your comp next class time. Never show up to dailies without having checked all your work beforehand, and especially before you meet with a client.
UFO:
Heather: Looks good. Waiting on her friend to continue.
Alex: UFO model looks good.
**We all need to remember that we have other projects to work on. The HP ad has started to over consume us. Please bring what you have done on your UFO projects by next class for review and any other work you will be turning in by the end of the semester.**
For our final we should turn in a 200 frame turntable of the final printer model, a still with 3 birds in our color scheme and a frame from the commercial with the commercial itself.. I will get all this together, print out our stills, mount them and bring high res render of the printer turntable. I will need to get all the elements form everyone by Dec. 14. I will follow up on this when we are closer to the final day of class.
