cut transitions computer graphics can help punch up the impact of specific transitions... so instead of standard cuts, you can use fades, cross dissolves, super-impositions and double exposures thematically -- graphic backgrounds you can go crazy with metaphorical references if you shoot, say, 30% of your priniciple photography on blue/green screen... then replace it later with thematic imagery. why limit yourself to certain locations and/or set design when you can put just about any image behind your talent? graphic foregrounds don't limit yourself to just cg backgrounds. shoot an element against the blue/green screen and place it in front of your action, (i.e. a butterfly, to cite an overused example, or effects that might be too dangerous to pull off on set, like fire columns...) special effects check out the music video, uninvisible that i worked on while at ILM.
