Q: How do a make sure that my Maya defaults are maintained from new scene to new scene? Sometimes I lose them for no apparent reason.
A: The maya prefs file becomes so large that it becomes corrupted. Rather than maintaining that file, just make a blank scene.
The only thing you want to save in the scene are your preferences, camera settings, etc. Just name it something like base.ma. Then we you start Maya, immediately open the saved base.ma file and work fromm that. When you are ready to save, then save as.. whatever.
So this way you will never corrupt your original base file, and it will always have all of your basic information and settings saved in the file.
