Q: Can Maya perform Global Illumination rendering?
A: Mental Ray in Maya now can do all of this: • GI, caustics, ambient occlusion, blurry reflections and refractions and motion blurred particles! • Mental Ray shaders can be created in Maya as well • Light Baking: shadows and lights can be converted to file textures • Image based lighting (photons, caustics and direct lighting) as well as HDRI and this can be viewed within Maya • Photometric lighting (real world light calculation) • Renders Maya Fur, Fluid Effects and shader glows • Photon Visualization (previewing the placement of photons and final gather points)
