Wanted to let everyone know that in the student dropoff folder there's a 'maya 7 render layer tutorial' folder. It has a sample scene file with some basic geometry, working render layers and also a text file that details how everything works. Note, however, that if you're planning on using a previous version of maya (6.0, 6.5, etc) for your match lighting project, then the tutorial will not make sense. This is because maya 7 handles render layers very differently from any previous versions.
