MODULE 7: Mid-Term Examination
Assignments:
• Assignment 7.1: Dailies. Please post current progress on all shots that you have not yet received a final. Post progress for specific shots to the dailies discussion folder for that particular shot. If you are not posting for a specific shot currently in production, explain why.
• Assignment 7.2: UFO Project. Shoot your background footage now. This project should simulate a tourist visiting San Francisco, and while shooting some video with a digital camera, the videographer happens upon a UFO. Must be in rolling footage format of at least 30 seconds. Everything else is up to you.
• Assignment 7.3: Mid-term Examination
Discussion:
• Discussion 7.1: Do you think your thesis project should have a story line? Do you think it benefits thesis projects to have a story line? Explain.
• Discussion 7.2: VFX Sequence of the Week. This week’s VFX pick is from the film Wild Wild West (1999), starring Will Smith and Kevin Kline, with post-production effects by Industrial Light and Magic (VFX Supervisor: Eric Brevig). Please watch this clip with instructor commentary and discuss the strengths and weaknesses (if any) of the shot(s) presented.
Final your shot last week? Did you move your shot to the student dropoff area? Check the finals procedures on the Projects Board.
Online class evaluations.
The practical value of your visual effects graduate school experience here at AAU. Is the industry waiting with open arms?
Review shot turnover sheets. I'll be meeting with each student to discuss the turnover sheet layout and your shot breakdown. Make copies before Friday.
