I have a maya question. How do I add an image sequence to a plane as a texture. I am trying to make a background plate for my 3D spaceship so that I will know how to animate it. I turned my movie into a targa sequence and I have my use image sequence checked on my load file area for my texture but it's not loading as a sequence. It will load a single targa and that's it. I want a sequence that will change frame to frame so that I can animate my ship.

derkash: in your case~will you delete the sequence after you match your 3D spaceship ? if YES~ I think you should do....... open a new camera adject the view to your final view open the hypershade ;D go to "environment"~ creat image plane click the folder beside the image name click on the "use image sequence" under the image name space load ur sequence now~adject ur timeline in the start "frame one" go back to hypershade, double check the "image number is ur first flame" then set key in the "frame offset" ;D ;D ;D finish! i think it should be work~check it out~ good luck! derdash, you might also want to rename your sequence so there's dots and no _ or stuff like that ....
um yea....
for the papers, i'm doing companies in canada, b/c i might have to go back b/c of my lack of a green card ... what info do we need for the paper? did anyone write it down from what Vince said?

Vita your Magic! I figured it out. I had to do it a little differently but I finally got it to work as an image plane. I had to tweak a couple of things to make it work. First it wouldn't read .mov files so I turned it into a targa sequence and it wouldn't read that. Then i had another clip that was rendered into a movie from commotion and it would read that so I rendered my ufo footage in commotion into a movie and this worked. I was trying to create a texture before. Anyway thank you for the help, I owe you one.

Do somebody can tell me: When I use the Motion Track in AE, I made a track point to track my UFO. But my UFO was not stayed in the original position (in the sky)but follow the track point that I made in the bottom. I try hundred time in order to figure out what's going on ~but................ .......... I may just animate my UFO frame by frame.......

Vita, Hey when I did mine i copied all my keyframes from my tracker on my live footage aand then I pasted them into my anchor point for my spaceship. make sure that you are in the right place on you timeline.(where you want your clip to begin) Now your ship should animate the same as the tracker. If its not working try throwing away the ufo layer and bringing in a new one. Also once you get it to track you might have to keyframe your position values on the x axis to keep your ship from flying out. I hope this helps. I can help you tomorrow if you can't figure it out.

And check each of your composition resolutions. Using mis-matched resolutions might cause this.
For instance, if you tracked a marker in a footage composition that is 320x240 and then applied the tracking curves to a composition that is 1K, you might see a weird result.
We'll take a peek Friday.

Thanks a lot~ my gentlemans~ Actually, darkash u tought me the same way in the last Friday class. I did. I did the same way, but it couldn't work~ I copied "whole Tracker Points" under my originally footage, and paste to my UFO footage...it couldn't be pasted!!!! so strange~ later on~ I asked John and he told me the same way... it still didn't work! Then, I "only" copied "attach points" under my tracker points and pasted into my UFO, then it worked. so~I confused now~even though it worked. whatever, it worked! that was great~ but i still didn't just the motion tracker, bcoz my footage was so ...................so...............u know~~~ very hard to track! Finally, I animated it frame by frame! I spend too too.tooooooooooooooooo much time to figure out how to track my UFO and look "good" !!! I failed whole day Wednesday~ so~ I went to sleep and waked up at midnight and keep doing it "DAME FRAME BY FRAME"~ I finished lol! so happy~~~ hahaha ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
I will show my all questions and strange things suffered in my UFO in Friday class! c u guys in noon!

Vita- This was driving me crazy in class so I decided to figure it out! I was thinking there had to be a way to make your text animate with out you making separate layers.. and there is!!! (I wish we could post files)
Try this procedure:
1. Create a text layer, either u can hit ctrl+T, press the T tool on the palette, or go to Layer/New/Text 2. Choose your color or style of font 3. Type your text (in your case 2 layers, one for San Francisco and one for Bay Bridge) 4. Position the text where you want it 5. Click the triangle next to the layer red box so it reveals your options 6. choose animate, opacity 7. This will create an Animator selection group 8. In the Animator group open advanced make sure characters is what "based on" is using 9. Click on start and press the little stopwatch icon to start the animation 10. Start should be set to 0% you should see little grey bars at the beginning and end of your text 11. Make sure you are using your pick tool 12. Move the time slider to the end time you want all of your text to be revealed.. this will determine how fast you want the letters to appear 13. Select the grey bar at the beginning of the text and move it to the end of your text 14. Set start percentage to 100% this will now reveal your text 15. Set your offset to 0% (do not animate this) 16. Make sure end is set to 100% (this makes sure all of your text will be affected by the animation of the start marker) 17. Make sure your opacity is set to 0% 18. try a preview 19. Your text should now be revealed the way you want it to 20. If it is too slow, move the last marker (the one we set @ 100%) in your start line closer to the original 21. You can now add effects to the text, apply it to a path.. anything you want
If you have questions email me or IM me. I am going to email you with 2 sample movies I created. One is very basic, the other has added effects, just to show you what is possible.
Hope this helps!

Does anyone have good book recommendations for After Effects? I have "Creating Motion Graphics" 2nd ed...but it seems more geared toward multimedia stuff than visual effects. I don't know...maybe I'm just not looking closely enough & all I need is in there. But anyway, I'm still having a rough time figuring things out...so anybody have some recommendations on books?

patience young grasshopper! Ha ha! Well... Trish and Chris Meyer seem to be the masters of After Effects, but there are a couple other books that are pretty good! You probably won't find a book telling you everything you want to know. But.... you might want to check out:
Adobe After Effects 6.5 Magic:James Rankin Adobe After Effects 6 Hands-On Training: Lynda Weinman After Effects in Production (don't know about an update for this one?)
Those are probably okay.. but every book is more geared towards motion graphics. I did see this book after a quick search: After Effects and Photoshop: Animation and Production Effects for DV and Film by Jeff Foster Maybe that can help?
