Hey everyone,
I can bring my Mortal Kombat DVD ;D to class on Friday. I think it would be interesting to see a much older film/VFX. I think so far we only have Episode II Right? I will bring it as a backup film. So, if there are two other people itching to show their movie they can go.
Tiffany
Thanks Elana for the internship post. Good looking out.

Hello. Here is PC (Pao-Ching). Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University?
[/b]- I am an international student from Taiwan. Before I came here for my graduate study I visited San Francisco once and had a wonderful time. When I decided to study abroad, AAU was added to my list. The school is located near the industry and the programs focus on specific professional areas that I wanted to get connected with. What makes you want to participate in the Industry (VFX)?[/b] -I like to watch movies with visual effects and I am always so amazed at those because they are made from the imagination to visual impact. I think that is what I want to do for my career in the future. What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the post-production vfx industry?[/b] -I got my BA of art and art education in Taipei Municipal Teachers College and I was trained to be an artist and a children¡¦s fine art teacher. I know I need to manipulate the digital tool well with my artist eye for the vfx industry.

Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University?
Comparing to other schools, I think AAU designs curriculums following the industry. I prefer practical more than theory.
What makes you want to participate in the Industry (VFX)?
If my favorite handsome movie star or director is working on their movie effects, I can get the pictures of the movie star earlier than other fans, or I can work with famous directors.
What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the post-production vfx industry?
I have been to make fluent animation from traditional illustration. I not only modified traditional illustration to make lively animation, but also kept good texture quality of the illustration. My experience and patience definitely can make a great work in future.

hi everybody.... man i can tell this is going to be a TOUGH course ! quizzes started on day one.... well there are my answers Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University? Looked at a lot of schools and this one seemed to have more 'working in the industry' faculty + its close to the industry + of all the cities in the states i like sf the most. What makes you want to participate in the Industry (VFX)? My favorite movies are Star Wars and Tron and kept me at the edge of my seats with the visuals. Wanted to be part of the team which made the magical 'edge of the seat' experience. What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the post-production vfx industry? My undergrad was in architecture and i worked for a year in the middle east. Im used to working within a team of people, thinking out of the box and to very tight deadlines. In many ways i feel the vfx industry is very much similar to architecture, creative and exciting, but its just a different mediam that the work is done in.

Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University?
I actually ended up here as an happy accident. I was touring a handful of grad schools, focusing on theatrical lighting and some cgi theatrical integration. I booked a last minute flight and took a tour here, and was impressed. After a month of being recruited, this place easily stood out as the most focused, professional, and career orientated. I really like the fact that this school is evenly focused on the business/industry side, as well as more abstract artistic ideals.
What makes you want to participate in the Industry (VFX)?
I've always loved to create impossible imaginative worlds. Growing up, the living room floor was always covered in my latest project. I started college in architecture, but there was just too many limiting factors (budget, physical laws of nature, clients, building codes). Then I went to theatre design, with fewer pragmatic problems, but there were still limits (lack of budget, time, actors). So now I'm in VFX, and there's nothing stopping me now! (except clients, budget.....)
What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the post-production vfx industry?
I've literally done a bit of everything (which is what happens when you change your undergrad major 5 times). I've done acting, dance, directing, fine art, 3D work, set/lighting/costume/sound/projection design for stage, lighting for DV and 16mm (b+w and color), cinematography, architecture, photography, screenwriting, production design - and I've got success and horror stories for every single d**n thing. Most of all, I've loved the collaborative process that came with theatre. You had to find a way to mesh with up to 5 other driven artists, under huge deadlines and pressure, and try to create something coherent. Sometimes it worked and often it didn't - but it was always an adventure.

Discussion questions for week one:
Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University? It was the only where I can get a Masters Degree in Modeling.
What makes you want to participate in the Industry (VFX)? I want to participate in the VFX industry because I love being creative using the computer as my tool, not to mention I am not good at anything else.
What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the post-production vfx industry? I thought about this question for a while and I have come to this answer............Everyone is unique that is what makes us all the same. All I can honestly say is that I was brought up with a good work ethic instilled by my parents who at a young age taught me to work for everything I get, nothing is handed to you. I guess in this age of laziness what makes me unique is my willingness to work on particular tasks, even ones I do not enjoy.

Hi guys, this is Nucharee. Please call me Nuch (pronouced as "Nooch"). Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University? [/b] - I did the campus tour before making decicion to study here. I like the policy of AAU that their instructors are people working in the industry. It means I can learn from their experience. There are some specific problems that books, tutorial website or software technicians can't help me get through, but those who are in the industry might have this problem before, and can fix or do thing better. What makes you want to participate in the Industry (VFX)? [/b] - I like movies, books, animations and comics, and I really want to create one, especially movie and animation. It's such a great way to let others enjoy one's imagination. What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the post-production vfx industry? [/b] - My undergraduate is Industrial Design. I worked as industrial designer for a year then changed to work in production house for 2 years before coming here. I don't know if I'm unique here, but at my workplace I was quite unique. I started working in the production house as an animtor and modeler. Later, the company needed someone to control the motion capture, and I was the only one who has the ability of learning the new thing in 3 weeks from reading and asking. Therefore I took charge of controlling Vicon8 for real-time capturing and Character setup in Filmbox (now renamed to Motionbuilder). At the time I was working there, the company had an animation showing on TV 3 days a week (20 minutes per day) and an FX series every weekend (45 minute per day). However, we had only 7 maya users (not including me), 2 composit artists, 2 motion capture operators and 3 network administratosr. We needed to work in every position that we can do in order to make our works on time. If we were late, we needed to pay the fine to the TV station which costed $5,000 per seconds. Therefore, I'm quite used to working under pressure and the tight schedule. Later, the company hired more employees, I was the only one who was resposible for training the newbies. That's why I think I was unique for the post production industry.

So, I think VFX that challenge me to makes interesting scene and new technique in the world.

Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University?
It's a great place to work, learn, and advance your skills as an artist.
What makes you want to participate in the Industry (VFX)?
My main reason to work in the VFX industry is the possibilities it offers. Creating fantastic scenes, telling new stories in new ways, making the impossible seem real. The creative possibilities and applications are vast. I am particularly interested in motion graphics and creating ways of combining images and information while delivering a cohesive point. Visual Effects allow designers endless ways to style the delivery of content.

I have years of computer graphics experience, a BFA in Graphic Design, and broad skills with a variety of applications and mediums. I also have a background of educational support, and have worked in academic pre- and post- production video for over three years.

Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University? There are some factors make me do the decision. The background of the school and the art environment of San Francisco are the main reasons. I think I can meet many professional animator and visual effect artists here and study from them.
What makes you want to participate in the Industry (VFX)? I like both art and technique. I want to combine them together. I like imagination and all beautiful scenes. The VFX can create a magic beautiful visual world. I have good feeling about video editing, color, image composing. I think I am suitable to do this kind of job and the most important thing is, I like VFX very much. China, my homeland needs professional animators and visual effect artists also.
What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the post-production vfx industry? I have BArch degree in Architecture and MS in computer science. I am studying for MFA in animation & visual effect right now. That means I have both art and technical background.
