Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University?
I have chosen the Academy of Art because VFX is kind of a new field in Taiwan, and very few schools offer this class. I asked my friend who graduated in AAU and he highly recommended me to apply to this school. My sister who studies in UC Davis has been in San Francisco 6 years and she also recommended to study at AAU.
What makes you want to participate in the Industry (VFX)?
The reason why I wanted to participate in the VFX industry is because when I saw Jurassic Park for the first time, I was wondering how could they make dionsaurs look so real. So incredible! This pushed me to want to know how they made it and what skills are used.
What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the post-production vfx industry?
Industrial Engineering and Management was my first bachelor's degree. I have never done any 3D work before I came here but I am really interested in this field that's why I chose VFX as my 2nd degree. I have completed several 3D classes and also got basic knowledge in this field. I also bought some books and searched for tutorials via the internet to keep pushing me to improve everyday! I know that I am not that "unique" now, but I trust myself that one day I will become the "unique" companys are looking for.
see you guys next week!!!!!

Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University? Do you feel that the school has the necessary resources you need to complete your program?
I chose Academy of Art University is because of that I have heared that this school is very professional at fields such as VFX and Animation, and I've always wanted to create art with computer. Yes, I do feel that the school has the necessary resources for me to achieve my goal.
What makes you want to participate in the computer graphics industry? Do you watch a lot of VFX films?
I like to draw, play with computer, and imagine things. I think the computer graphics industry is perfect for me. I do watch a lot of VFX films and always wonder how did they make them.
What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the computer graphics industry? Would you classify yourself as an artist, a technician, or a little of both?
Like I said above that I like to draw and use computers, and love VFX films, I believe that I have the talent and patient to finally make it to the industry. I would classify myself an artist.

•Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University? Do you feel that the school has the necessary resources you need to complete your program?
I originally went to a school in Minnesota called Bemidji State University for Graphic Design. I got into that for two years, but I wasn't too happy doing it. I had a love for 3D animation and search around for schools and found the Academy. I was an animation student for one year and yet again just wasn't right. I had worked on student films with my friends and I finally decided to go into the MPT department for Special Effects. I am pretty confident that the school can supply me with what I need. I just hope they don't cancel the live action special effects class again.
• What makes you want to participate in the computer graphics industry? Do you watch a lot of VFX films?
I want to love my job. If it is something that interest you and you have fun doing even if you are working and working and working it is going to seem like less of work and more of something you would be doing on your free time. I love computers and technology as well as making something that is fake seem real to the viewer and you get that oh my god reaction out of them. I do enjoy taking in a good VFX film and trying to figure out how they did that.
• What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the computer graphics industry? Would you classify yourself as an artist, a technician, or a little of both?
Like most people my age I grew up on computers and they have been easily a big part of my everyday life. I also think that having somewhat of a graphic design background as well as a MPT background with this VFX background can give me a different way of looking at things that could help in the long run. I would have to say that I am a little of both the artist type and the technician type.

Discussion Topic 1.1 Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University? Do you feel that the school had the necessary resources you need to complete your program?
>I want to study VFX not 3D animation. Frankly I applied ¡§Ring Ling Art School¡¨ for 3D animation major, but simply 3D animation is not for me. >I believe the school has the necessary resources that I need
Discussion Topic 1.2 What makes you want to participate in the computer graphic industry? Do you watch a lot of VFX films?
>Imagination! The word imagination is why I want to work in the computer graphic industry. 3D computer graphic is the key to expand imaginations of people beyond what their dream. Creating something out of nothing is most fun working in VFX world. > I do watch a lot of VFX films. I have over hundred of DVDs. My favorite movie is ¡§Matrix¡¨
Discussion Topic 1.3 What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the computer graphic industry? Would you classify yourself as an artist, a technician or a little of both?
>I came from Korea and I was in U. S. Army for four years before. Creativity, effort, and an ability to change impossible to possible are what make me a unique candidate for a position in the computer graphic industry. >I would say little of both.

Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University?
I chose the Academy because I researched a couple of art schools online and decided that the Academy was the best choice for my career. I looked through sites such as CGSociety, and saw that there were a lot of industry professionals who have decided to teach at the Academy and I could hardly resist enrolling. I looked through other schools such as SCAD, and Ringling, but I decided on the Academy because it seemed it would give me the best education possible.
What makes you want to participate in the Industry (VFX)?
I don't really know what makes me want to participate in VFX. I just have this strange unnatural love for it. I’ve always loved that feeling of creating something out of nothing and VFX allows me to do so in a way that I’m most comfortable. I’ve always been quite a bit of the computer geek in school, and combining art and technology was a no-brainer for me.
What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the post-production vfx industry?
I would consider myself to be a really hard worker and a fast learner. I tend to have a really good eye, which I’m still developing, at being able to tell what works and what’s awful in respect towards digital manipulation. I am willing to slave myself in front of a computer for the rest of my career if that’s what it takes. I just love this so much, 18 hour days and getting berated by superiors will never take that away.

Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University?I wanted to see the bigger world out there. I believed my study in the US would lead me to various valuable experiences. There are basically two reasons why I chose the AAU program. Firstly, I heard that AAU teachs students by professional artists and designers who are working at the industry. I also believe that it is very advantageous to be near the major workers in the industry such as Pixar and PDI. when I started working, I was disappointed to find out that what I have learned in college didn¡¯t really prepare me to work in the real world. (I didn¡¯t realize this while I was studying at my college in Korea) With the education that repeats basic techniques and the lack of quality studying materials in Korea, my desire to study more professional and detailed technology only grew bigger. (For example, it was truly disappointing to find out that there was only one book on renderman, although it has been already 10 years since the technology has become famous with the success of Toy Story.) Secondly, when i was choosing where to study, it is important to see if the institution fits you well. Moreover, as a foreigner living abroad, you have to consider the environment around the school. When I was backpacking around Europe while I was in college, I had read a lot of books on the popular traveling spots and the major cities in the world. I remember reading somewhere that San Francisco was considered one of the best cities to live along with Barcelona, Spain. What makes you want to participate in the Industry (VFX)?I found computer graphics more interesting than traditional fine arts because for computer graphics you not only need to be creative but also need to have (logical mind) a technological side. After graduating from college, I decided to work as game graphic designer. I had worked for 2 years there before deciding to study more about computer graphics in the US. What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the post-production vfx industry? As a child I was equally influenced by both of my parents. My father, who was a general, influenced me to be disciplined and to be in control of myself, my mother, who was a classical pianist, afforded me to be around artistic and musical environment. I believe balancing creativity with technological method is very important. I like to realize my artistic potential by continuous endeavors. ;D

Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University?
Firstly, I've chosen AAU because I heard lots of information about trainning, learning in this school from other Taiwanese seniors when I was in Taiwan. I can learn how to connect my learning to work in the industry, that is, practical training in this school. And, of course this is exactly what I want to learn. Another reason I appreciate this school is the students in this school have all kinds of backgrounds and languages because of the flexibility in admission. The school helps everyone who has the passion to pursue his artistic goal, even no art background or no good English. As a result of this, I believe this school create a hybrid artists furnace.
What makes you want to participate in the Industry (VFX)?
I love compositing because I feel very happy if I can put my imagination into films. Besides, I get excited about VFX because it can make some plain photos or simple films to be very interesting, marvelous. Therefore, I can convey some ideas through some easy resourses by using VFX skills. That's why VFX enchanted me so much.
What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a postion in the post-production vfx industry?
My background is education for grade students, not concerning art, but I have a lot of patience and thoughtfulness. I suppose those are essential to the post-production. Besides, I do love to record everything around me, including natural sights, people, architecture or animals, by using digital camera or digital video. I believe they all are my unique and valuable references in the post-production. The most important thing is I have much enthusiasm about compositing, so when I do this kind of jobs, I feel very happy and engrossed.

Zheng Bao 1.Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University? Do you feel that the school had the necessary resources you need to complete your program? About 2 years ago, one of my friend gave me AAU book about the school. After I finished my BA, I wanted to study more abroad. So, I began to search some information about the school from website and bbs. I found there are many international students have a nice study here. AAU has a high reputation in animation and VFX. Also, San Francisco is a very good city for living. I believe that the school had the necessary resources I need to complete the program.
2.What makes you want to participate in the Industry (VFX)?Do you watch a lot of VFX films? I used to be a graphic and new media designer. Once I applied a job in Advertising Dept. in a new animation company. After my interview, the animation director asked me whether I'd like to learn and work on Compositing. I like to try something new, so I said OK. Then, I found sometimes, the art principle or aesthetics are the same in all art area. I can do not only graphic design and fine art. The point is I like it because in some view, VFX is intuitionistic, realism and objective. It is easy to understand. I like abstract art, but when I do it as my job, it is very hard to explain the meaning or concept to others. Moreover, I watch many VFX films. I think VFX is kind of supranatural. It makes fake things reasonable, like magic. So, I want to participate in it.
3.What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the post-production vfx industry? Would you classify yourself as an artist, a technician or a little of both? First of all, I like it. Secondly, I was trained professinally in fine art and design. The knowledge such as perspective, sense of space, color and light will be helpful. Also, I am a creative observer and a hard worker. (but I am not a person who can always work in front of the computer. I think to do VFX need to know what the real world is.) I would like to say a little of both.

Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University? >I was born and slightly raised in the bay area, I love it out here. I moved to North Carolina when I was younger and visited back here often. I always wanted to come back. Also, the school is well accredited and it seemed like the best place to be. Instructors from my previous school recommended the Academy based on how well known it is and the fact that they had friends and co-workers that have worked here.
So far, so good.
What makes you want to participate in the Industry (VFX)? >>I love being creative. I love that film with visual or physical effects and animation can create a world or story beyond what anyone can realistically see. I want to focus my efforts into one major course and also try to touch on other areas.
What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the post-production vfx industry? >>As I said above, I love being creative. I have the drive to learn more about this trade and have great teamwork skills. I enjoy camaraderie and getting the job done mutually.

I chose the Academy of Art University because I believe that this school merges creative thought with technical ability and industry standards.
I want to be a part of the VFX industry because I have found that it is the best method for my self-expression. Merging drawings with animations and live footage has become my medium as an artist. I think of all the movies that have truly affected me and I hope to develop to a level that I can be a part of something as important as the movies have been to me.
My undergrad is a double major. One in fine art (sculpture, charcoal, paints and concept) the other is in Art Technology. The Art Technology degree was concentrated on video. I have made a documenatry and multiple stop-motion shorts along with some simple final cut composites. I am a good candidadte because I am working hard to learn multiple aspects of the VFX process. I have built my own green screens and models, miced and shot footage, done some 2d and 3d animation and learned to edit. But most of all I love trying to integrate all these elements into a coherent thought.

Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University? It was recommended to me by several people who I was fortunate enough to meet when I first moved out here. I also felt that a visual effects track would help me to improve my skills and to achieve my goals of working in the visual effects industry. It's also a great place to meet girls !!! What makes you want to participate in the Industry (VFX)?Visual effects has always been my passion. Every aspect of it fascinates me - especially matte painting. My ultimate goal is to be a director of visual effects heavily involved in the matte painting process. I would like to create matte paintings that are more like entire shots in a film that can almost tell a story in themselves. For instance, when looking at the amazing matte shots of Coruscant from the latest Star Wars movies, your imagination can take off on its own as you wonder what else might be going on in that world besides the movie's main plot. Not to say that the main plot isn't at all interesting, and then you CUT TO - INT. JEDI TEMPLE - DUSK - Anakin brooding away. (or something like that) and you're back in the thick of it. With my work, I would like to take the audience for a ride. But it is ultimately up to the director's discretion what goes in the movie. Which is the sad side of things. Imagine working on an effects shot for months that you're emotionally involved with - AND it gets left out and ends up on the cutting room floor. BUMMER. Well, that's life. In case this ever happens, just bear in mind that it's nothing personal and always remember that film makers don't make movies. Hedge funds make movies. What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the post-production vfx industry?I've worked in the film and television production industry for several years prior to coming to the bay area to pursue a career in visual effects I've also made my own film from pre-production (That includes script writing, storyboards, models, set design and construction) to post-production (matte paintings and animations, video editing, and audio design) Even martial arts choreography Wah-ta!!! You may ask yourself HOW DOES HE NOT BURN OUT??? Well, that's part of the magic when you can apply what you know about visual effects and put a reveal mask on your life. Don't ever let them see you sweat... ever. And if they do, just say it's water and that you went for a swim - in the Niagara River. When I approach an effects shot, I think of any means to achieve it whether it be digital effects such as 3D, digital matte paintings, or everyday practical methods. I've been known to make textures out of organic things like a cheese pizza. The key is to take lots of pictures of as many interesting things as you can find. It's like taking notes - only with a camera. So, that would make them visual notes really. So, that's enough from me. Sorry if it got long-winded. It's been one of those days and I needed to express myself

Why have you chosen the Academy of Art University? I think for art, Big city is very important. a lot of events come up. Especially, San Francisco is the place where full of people come from different countries and it's the multi-culture city. Moreover, the VFX industry is very important in west coast becaust of the Hollywood. Academy of art, the school trains students very well and makes them suit to the industry. Thats why I choose AAU. What makes you want to participate in the Industry (VFX)? Before I come here, I never know exactly what is VFX. I know what is VFX in a movie, but I have no idea about how did they do that. However, I can compound the picture well by using photoshop or painter. I can not feel satisfied just compound still picture, so I come here and wanna join to this industry. What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the post-production vfx industry? I studied something avout IT in my country. I can programming C, C+, java, VB, VC, asp. I also studied communucating design in my country. before I come here, I worked for web design company for a while as part time job. I also worked for IT company. I programed for testing CCM (compact camera module). I think most cell phone have this device now (cemera). I learned about macbeth when I worked there. I think as a coder, I can have more opportunity to do VFX job well. I believe my logical thinking will help me a lot.

Why have I chosen the Academy of Art? I am here because I want to learn from professors that have working knowledge of VFX today. They are current and have the network needed to get us going from students to professionals. I felt that this was a superior place to make connections with highly creative and successful students and professors. I was also inspired by the location of course, who would pass up a chance to live in San Francisco.
What makes you want to participate in the industry? Being a self-proclaimed cinephile I just could not help getting involved. I love film to an obsessive level and want to participate on a global level in creating films. Some people paint, others write, I want to be able to combine all these art forms and make films come to life.
What is it about your background that makes you a unique candidate for a position in the post-production vfx industry? Once I completed my BA in Art History I felt intellectually satisfied but lost. I found VJ’ing as a gate way into multi-media productions. I have been working as a VJ/video artist for bands and other music events over the last 7 years. The programs that I began to learn on my own piqued my interest and I had to follow it. VFX is my first step into the industry; it is something I feel that once I learn the tools, my imagination will truly be put to the test. I am excited to find a field that incorporates both creative imagination and technical skills. In a phrase, this field speaks to me.
